UPDATE OF THE APPROVED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME FOR AMAKHALA EMOYENI WIND ENERGY FACILITY AND ASSOCIATED INFRASRUCTURE, EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE.

Amakhala Emoyeni RE Project 1 RF (Pty) Ltd obtained environmental authorisation (Split EA was obtained on 28 August 2012) to develop the Amakhala Emoyeni Phase 1 Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure on a site between Cookhouse and Bedford in the Eastern Cape Province. The facility development footprint is authorised for the farms:
» Remainder of Portion 1 of Farm Kleine Knoffel Fonteyn 187;
» Portion 5 of Farm Great Knoffel Fonteyn 149;
» Farm 242;
» Farm 260;
» Farm 259;
» Farm Kop Leegte 205;
» Portion 1 of Farm 222;
» Remainder of Farm 222; and
» Farm Stompstaart Fontein 168.
The Construction and Operational Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) was updated as per Condition 3.1 of the split EA and approved on 28 May 2013. The EMPr was subsequently revised and approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) on 28 May 2014.
The Facility commenced operations in July 2016 and based on the recommendations of the Audit report (dated March 2017), it was required that the approved Construction and Operational EMPr exclude the planning and construction phase. It should be noted that there were no amendments to the impact management outcomes of the Operational EMPr (OEMPr).
Amakhala Emoyeni RE Project 1 RF (Pty) Ltd has appointed Savannah Environmental, as the independent environmental consultants, to update the OEMPr as per the recommendations of the Audit Report.
AVAILABILITY OF THE OEMPr FOR PUBLIC REVIEW
In accordance with Regulation 35(1) of the EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended in April 2017), the updated OEPMr is available for public review and comment by registered Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs). Registered I&APs are invited to view the OEMPr from the 09 November 2017 –
08 December 2017. The updated OEMPr is available for download on www.savannahsa.com. The due date for written comment is 08 December 2017. Comments can be made as written submission via fax, post or email.
