Project Name: Karusa Wind Energy Facility
Applicant: ACED Renewables Hidden Valley (Pty) Ltd
Proposed Amendments: In terms of the environmental authorisation received in August 2014, the project description for the wind energy facility refers to 57 wind turbines each with a generating capacity between 2MW and 3.5MW and a rotor diameter of up to 120m. ACED Renewables Hidden Valley (Pty) Ltd is requesting DEA to amend the project description as described in the authorisation as follows:
- Up to 43 turbines which will result in a revision of the layout approved by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) on 29 January 2016.
- The turbine specification (as specified on page 7 of the EA) is to change to:
- Rotor Diameter: up to 150m; and
- Up to 4.5MW in generating capacity for each turbine.
Project Location: The project site is located in the Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality on the following properties:
- The Farm De Hoop 202;
- The Farm Standvastigheid 210;
- The Remainder of the Farm Rheebokke Fontein 209; and
- Portion 3 of the Farm Rheebokke Fontein 209.
In terms of Condition 5 of the Environmental Authorisation and Regulation 31 of the EIA Regulations of December 2014, as amended on 07 April 2017, it is possible for an applicant to apply, in writing, to the competent authority for a change or deviation from the project description to be approved.
Motivation Report available for Public Review: Savannah Environmental has compiled a Motivation Report in support of the amendment application. The Motivation Report is available for public review and comment. The report is available for review between 24 October 2017 and 23 November 2017 at www.savannahsa.com. The due date for written comment is 23 November 2017.
