Kelvin Power Station Atmospheric Emissions Licence (AEL) Renewal.
Project Name: Kelvin Power Station, Gauteng Province.
Applicant: Kelvin Power (Pty) Ltd.
Location: The Kelvin Power Station is located on the Remainder of Portion 82 of Farm Zuurfontein 33IR approximately 6km north-west of Kempton Park within Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
Proposed Activity: Kelvin Power (Pty) Ltd has been issued with an Emission License (AEL) (14/1/1/7/1/66/Kelvin/Kemp) which will expire on 31 May 2018. Notice is hereby given that Kelvin Power (Pty) Ltd intends to apply for the renewal of the Atmospheric Emissions License for the Kelvin Power Station. In terms of Section 21 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004), the following Listed Activity is applicable in terms of the renewal of this license:
- Category 1, Sub-category 1.1 – Solid fuels combustion installation used primarily for steam or electricity generation.
In terms of Sections 38 and 47 of NEM:AQA of 2004, a renewal of the Air Emissions License is required to be obtained for the power station from the licensing authority, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
Public Participation Process: An Air Quality Impact Report (AIR) has been compiled in support of the renewal of the AEL, as required in terms of the Act. The AIR is available for review and comment from
20 March 2018 – 23 April 2018. The due date for written comment is 23 April 2018. The report is available at the following locations:
- Kempton Library (CR Swart Drive, Kempton Park)
- Kelvin Power Station, Security Office (3 Zuurfontein Road, Kempton Park)
Invitation to Public Meeting: Interested and Affected Parties are invited to attend a Public Meeting to be held on Wednesday 11 April 2018 at 18:00 at the Kelvin Estate Club House, 8 Crow Street, Spartan Extension 26, Kelvin Power Station Estate.
