Project Name: Zonnequa Wind Farm, Northern Cape Province

Proposed Activity: The development of a wind farm with a contracted capacity of up to 140MW which will include up to 56 wind turbines and associated infrastructure including a substation, a power line to connect at Gromis Substation, access roads and laydown areas.
Location: The project site is located approximately 19km south-east of Kleinsee, within the Nama Khoi Local Municipality and the Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province. The site falls within Focus Area 8 of the Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZ), which is known as the Springbok REDZ.
Two properties comprise the wind farm site: Portion 1 of the Farm Zonnekwa 328 and the Remaining Extent of the Farm Zonnekwa 326.
The power line corridor traverses seven affected properties: Remaining extent of the Farm Zonnekwa 326, Remaining extent of the Farm Honde Vlei 325, Remaining extent of the Farm Kannabieduin 324, Remaining extent of the Farm Leliefontein 322, Remaining extent of the Farm Mannels Vley 321, Remaining extent of the Farm Dikgat 195 and Portion 15 of the Farm Dikgat 195.
Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, Environmental Authorisation is required for the project. As the project site is located within the REDZ, a Basic Assessment (BA) process is required to be undertaken in accordance with GN114 (February 2018). Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and public participation process.
