Groenheuwel HIA & PIA for Review & Comment


PV Solution Services (Pty) Ltd is proposing the construction of the Groenheuwel 990 kWp Solar Plant and associated power line on the Remainder Erf 1300 Kakamas Suid Nedersetting, in the Kai !Garib Local Municipality, ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Northern Cape Province.

The proposed project comprises the following:


  • The facility would have a capacity of approximately 990 kWp occupying an area just below 1Ha.
  • An overhead 22kV power line would feed the power from the facility into the Eskom grid. This power line will be approximately 6.5km in length.

The area identified for the establishment of the PV facility was previously used as vineyards and is currently used as a drying area for the dry of grapes that are not suitable for export to make raisins.

Savannah Environmental (Pty) Ltd, as the appointed independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner, appointed PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd to conduct the HIA and Palaeontological Impact Assessment (PIA) (desktop) and compile a HIA Report and PIA Report.

The HIA and PIA Reports are available for public review and comment from Wednesday, 13 November 2019 until Friday, 13 December 2019, and can be downloaded from Savannah Environmental’s website ( The due date for written comment is Friday, 13 December 2019.

All comments received will be included in the final Reports which will be submitted to the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) for review and decision-making.  Kindly note that comments that are not made on heritage grounds will not be considered.
