Project Name: Khai-Ma Wind Energy Facility (WEF) and Associated Infrastructure, Northern Cape Province.
Applicant: South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Development (Pty) Ltd
South Africa Mainstream Renewable Power Development (Pty) Ltd is requesting the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) to amend the turbine specifications, in the environmental authorisation dated 28 May 2015 (as amended), as follows:
|Rotor diameter||up to 140m||up to 200m|
|Hub height||up to 140m||up to 200m|
|Generating capacity per turbine||1,5MW – 4MW||2MW – 7MW|
|Number of Turbines||Up to 70||Up to 42|
The overall export capacity of the WEF will not increase from 140MW.
Project Location: The project site is located in the Khai-Ma Local Municipality, Namakwa District Municipality, Northern Cape Province on the following properties:
- Portion 1 of the farm Namies Suid 212;
- Portion 1 of the Farm Poortje 209; and
- Remaining Extent of the Farm Poortje 209
In terms of Condition 5 of the Environmental Authorisation dated 28 May 2015 and Regulation 31 of the EIA Regulations of December 2014, as amended, it is possible for an applicant to apply, in writing, to the competent authority for a change or deviation from the project description to be approved.
Motivation Report available for public review and comment: Savannah Environmental has compiled a Motivation Report in support of the Amendment Application. The Motivation Report is available for public review and comment between Tuesday, 1 October 2019 and Thursday 31 October 2019. The Motivation Report can be downloaded from Savannah Environmental’s website (https://www.savannahsa.com/public-documents/energy-generation/). The due date for written comment is Thursday 31 October 2019.
