Khunab Solar Grid Connection
Applicant: McTaggarts PV1 (Pty) Ltd
Proposed Activity: Development of a grid connection solution for four (4) proposed solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities known as the Khunab Solar Development. The grid connection infrastructure will include a single circuit 132kV power line, two (2) collector substations (each including switching station components) and two (2) main access roads.
Location: Approximately 20km south-west of Upington in the Dawid Kruiper and Kai !Garip Local Municipalities and the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Northern Cape Province. Three properties are affected by the project including:
- Portion 3 of the Farm McTaggarts Camp 453;
- Portion 12 of the Farm Klip Punt 452; and
- Olyvenhouts Drift Settlement Agricultural Holdings 1080
Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327 and GN113, a Basic Assessment (BA) is required for the 132kV power line and 132kV collector substations. Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and public participation process for the project. An application for the project has been lodged with the competent authority i.e. the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).

The review and comment period of the BA Report is from Wednesday, 15 January 2020 until Friday, 14 February 2020. The due date for written comment is Friday, 14 February 2020.
