Project Name:  Nyala Solar PV Step-Up Facilities, Power Line and Substation near Welkom, Free State Province

Applicant:  Nyala Photovoltaic (Pty) Ltd

Proposed Activity:  The development of a 44kV power line, substation and step-up facilities to connect the authorised Nyala PV Solar Facility to the national grid.  The proposed infrastructure will be assessed within a larger corridor.

Location:  The Remaining Extent of the Farm Rietpan 17 and Farm Mijannie 162 located ~7km north-west of Welkom within the Matjhabeng Local Municipality and the Lejweleputswa District Municipality.

Basic Assessment Process:  In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, Environmental Authorisation is required for the project.  Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and public participation process.
