Dwarsrug Access Road


Project Name:  Dwarsrug Wind Energy Facility Proposed Access Road, Loeriesfontein, Northern Cape Province

Applicant:  South African Mainstream Renewable Power (Pty) Ltd

Proposed Activity:  An application for Environmental Authorisation (EA) will be submitted for the proposed access road to the Northern Cape Province Department of Environment and Nature Conservation as the Competent Authority, in accordance with the National Environmental Management Act (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA), Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014, as amended.

Location:  Two access road alternatives being proposed to the authorised Dwarsrug Wind Energy Facility (WEF) is located approximately 60km north of Loeriesfontein within the Hantam Local Municipality and in the greater Namakwa District Municipality, Northern Cape Province, and the affected properties information are as follows:

Alternative 2: Gravel road from granaatboskolk to the project site (approximately 8km)

Basic Assessment Process:  In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act (No 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, Environmental Authorisation is required for the project.  Savannah Environmental is undertaking the required environmental assessment and public participation process.

Basic Assessment Report available for Review and Comment:  The Basic Assessment Report (BAR) is available for review and comments from Friday, 05 April 2019 to Monday, 13 May 2019, and can be viewed at the Loeriesfontein Public Library, cnr Main and Plein Street, Loeriesfontein, and can also be downloaded from Savannah Environmental’s website (https://www.savannahsa.com/public-documents/other/). The due date for written comments is Monday, 13 May 2019.
