Wilmar Oil Pipeline
Proposed Activity: Wilmar Processing (Pty) Ltd is proposing the development of a vegetable oil pipeline, approximately 2.5km in length. The proposed pipeline will comprise of four (4) carbon steel pipes with a diameter of approximately 8 inches (216mm) each.
Project Location: The proposed pipeline is proposed in the Richards Bay Port and the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone area, located ~3km south-east of the Richard’s Bay Central District and 2km south of Arboretum, within Ward 02 of the City of uMhlathuze Local Municipality and the greater King Cetshwayo District Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. The proposed vegetable oil pipeline will extend from the Richards Bay Harbour Port to the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RB IDZ), where it will connect to a proposed oil processing facility (not part of this application) planned on Lot 17442 within Phase 1A of the IDZ. The affected properties include the following:

Basic Assessment Process: In terms of Sections 24 and 24D of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998), as read with Government Notice R324 – R327, as amended, a Basic Assessment (BA) is required for this project. Savannah Environmental (Pty) Ltd is undertaking the required BA and public participation process for the project.
A Basic Assessment Report has been compiled and is available for review and comment from 17 May 2019 to 17June 2019: The BA report can be viewed at the Richards Bay Public Library, Civic Centre, 5 Mark Strasse Street, Richards Bay, or at the Transnet National Port Authority’s Reception, Ventura Road, Richards Bay, or it can downloaded from https://www.savannahsa.com/public-documents/other/. The due date for written comment is 17 June 2019.
